The many sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross bring joy in the midst of suffering and give hope to all those with whom they come in contact through education, medicine and nursing, and pastoral and social care. Worldwide the Congregation is active in Belgium, Germany, England, Italy, Ireland, Brazil, USA, Africa, India, Pakistan and Nepal.

In India, The Daughters of the Cross of the Bombay Province serve in U.P, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. A group of six Sisters of the province are missioned to Cameroun. The Calcutta Province has convents in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Nepal, and Kerala. The Sisters go where they are needed.

We have St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in the Bombay Province and another hospital in the Calcutta Province in Gaya Ganga. There are also several outreach programmes conducted by the 2 hospitals.

In rural areas the emphasis is on community health through dispensaries, and the training of village health workers. Here we help patients through curative medicine. We strive to do this using rational drug therapy. Health Education looks after the preventive aspect, and the training of village health workers benefits the people, who do not need to go to dispensaries far away for ailments that can be treated in the village itself.
